Required

  • Made from reclaimed, recycled materials OR sustainable and renewable materials
  • Criteria for sourcing wood must include FSC certified, sustainably sourced (clear chain of production) or reclaimed
  • Use of a green office or facility, including resource reuse and maximum use of post-consumer recycled resources as well as maximum water and energy efficiency
  • Varnish/paint must be low or no VOC and the last toxic version available
  • No use of formaldehyde, lead, mercury, cadmium, bisphenol A in plastics, PBDEs as fire retardants
  • If synthetic content, innovative in content or manufacturing process

Preferred

  • Carpets made of demonstrably less toxic components and petroleum products unless recycled
  • Shipped with minimal packaging

Social & Economic Justice

Required

  • Country of manufacture must be listed on the website
  • If products are not made in the US and not bearing any third party certificates that address labor such as GoodWeave or Fair Trade, then an accounting of how child labor, unsafe working conditions and forced overtime is avoided in workplaces overseas

Preferred

  • If rugs are imported from South Asia, GoodWeave certified
