- Prioritizes recycled content - 30% recycled content for paper [This is considered average for cardboard]
- Include instructions for disposal of packaging or information on how to recycle
- If using plastic packaging, use the most recyclable (lowest number inside the triangular recycling symbol) plastic available
- Least amount of packaging possible, better than average within specific industry
- If biodegradable, ensure can compost and it will degrade or there is some mechanism to biodegrade rather than going in landfill where does not really help
- If bio-plastics, ensure transparency of composting instructions
Preferences
- Use of vegetable based inks whenever possible
- For paper, minimum 30% postconsumer recycled content
- Use reusable container or returnable to the company containers
- Collaboration on making containers more eco and social justice friendly within specific industry and within the green business movement generally
