Packaging

Packaging

Baseline

  • Prioritizes recycled content - 30% recycled content for paper [This is considered average for cardboard]
  • Include instructions for disposal of packaging or information on how to recycle
  • If using plastic packaging, use the most recyclable (lowest number inside the triangular recycling symbol) plastic available
  • Least amount of packaging possible, better than average within specific industry
  • If biodegradable, ensure can compost and it will degrade or there is some mechanism to biodegrade rather than going in landfill where does not really help
  • If bio-plastics, ensure transparency of composting instructions

Preferences

  • Use of vegetable based inks whenever possible
  • For paper, minimum 30% postconsumer recycled content
  • Use reusable container or returnable to the company containers
  • Collaboration on making containers more eco and social justice friendly within specific industry and within the green business movement generally
