New Report on U.S. Jobs: How to Shift Power from Wall Street to Main Street

The New Economy Working Group released the report A Main Street Fix for Wall Street's Failures, produced in collaboration with the New Economy Network to form a policy agenda that will deepen the jobs debate in the U.S.

The report calls for a serious jobs program that will necessarily include short-term stimulus measures, but with its primary focus on structural interventions to shift the balance of economic and political power from Wall Street to Main Street.

The New Economy Network stated that “this New Economy jobs program puts forward an agenda that secures for every American the opportunity to achieve an adequate and dignified living regardless of race or gender, to stabilize and strengthen the bonds of caring families and communities, to bring America’s material consumption into balance with our ecological resources, and to take a bold new step toward true democracy by creating a nation of owners.”

Green America is among the organizations that participated in the report, along with American Independent Business Alliance, Backbone Campaign, Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, Capital Institute, Center for Community Change, Democracy Collaborative of the university of Maryland, Green for All, Institute for Local Self-Reliance, Institute for Policy Studies, Living Economies Forum, New Economy Network, Rebuild the Dream, Transition Towns, and YES!
