As Forbes put it in their profile of Mendelsohn, “the paper industry is an ecological disaster.” The conventional process destroys virgin forests at an alarming rate and fills about 40% of typical American landfills with chemically treated paper. New Leaf Paper follows market-leading environmental specifications, from using the highest percentages possible of recycled and sustainably harvested fibers, to processing without the use of toxic chemicals.
Mendelsohn was one of the early pioneers in greener paper, driving a fundamental shift toward sustainability in the paper industry through his business model. He founded New York Recycled Paper in 1991 and New Leaf Paper in 1998, building a social and environmental mission into every product line and every transaction. An active member of the green business community, he was a founding signatory of B Corporation. Check out his Impact 30 profile.
