1. Support the Safe Cosmetics & Personal Care Products Act of 2013 (H.R. 1385)
Green America is working with the American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC) and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics to promote the Safe Cosmetics & Personal Care Act of 2013 (H.R. 1385). We know that oversight of the cosmetics industry is outdated and poses dangers to human and environmental health. Read a FAQ about the issues.
According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, “it's up to Congress to close gaping holes in the outdated federal law that allows cancer-causing chemicals in baby shampoo, hormone disruptors in fragrance and lead in lipstick. That's what you get when you have a $50 billion industry that's practically self-regulated.”
This bill promises to provide crucial and long overdue fixes to U.S. policy on chemicals (the Toxic Substances Control Act) that has failed to protect human health and the environment.
With the Safe Chemicals Act of 2013 we have an important opportunity to regulate toxics and protect ourselves, our businesses, and the environment from dangerous chemicals. Get a summary of the bill.
