Baseline Standards
- No Paraffin. Wax should be beeswax, corn, soy, hemp, or other naturally-based wax
- Wax source should not be GM/GE
- Palm oil is OK if Fair Trade and/or organic
- No use of polymers (to make the wax harder and burn longer)
- No Hydrocarbons (to bind oil and pigments)
- Variety of synthetic-free scents available
- Wicks should not include lead or zinc
- Recycled or recyclable packaging
- Discuss difference (health risks) between synthetic and essential oil fragrances on website
Preferences
- Stearic acid (to improve burning time)
- No ultra-violet inhibitors (to prevent color fade)
- No mold prevention powder
- Recycled or recyclable containers (such as glass jars)
- Wicks preferably made of hemp, cotton, organic cotton, paper
- Use of organic essential oils as fragrances
