Baseline Standards
- Maximize water saving
- Maximize energy efficiency
- Non-toxic materials – low or no VOC paints, no off-gassing materials
- No PVC (pipes) and vinyl—windows, siding, flooring
- Reclaimed/salvaged or FSC certified wood – also sustainable wood alternatives like bamboo, eucalyptus, cork, reclaimed tile, linoleum, no-VOC carpet
- Energy Star appliances (where applicable)
- Minimal impact construction, including site/location
- Full disclosure of relationships with contractors or third-party builders/installers – minimum labor standards must apply
Preferences
- Reclaimed or scrap metal for construction
- Carbon offsets or investigating such options
- Experience in doing LEED certified construction or local alternative
- Accreditation as LEED certified professional
- Incorporate solar in new/existing and/or geothermal in new construction
- Participant in 2030 challenge
